Hi, Rusty is correct, typically in the run {} block for Oracle/RMAN you would want something like: allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape'; allocate channel ch2 type 'sbt_tape'; allocate channel ch3 typ

The Oracle DBA allocated 6 channels for the backup and also 6 channels for the recovery. I see 6 streams in the GUI...but 3 are always waiting on tapes that he active 3 streams are using. Make sense?

Hi, I think I've seen this behaviour when a backup is performed to a disk staging area with multiple streams, but the restore is limited by the number of tapes that the backup was stored on. Regards
It's been several years since I've had tape, but it sounds to me like the DBA has done everything correctly for 6 channels. The problem, if you can call it a problem, is that the backup server (med

If your original backup had 6 channels but they didnt all start at same time OR some restarted due to some issue it is possible some of the streams are on tapes used by other streams in which case it

RMAN backup was 35TB across 40 tapes. Backup is claimed to have used 6 streams. All masters & clients/media servers and oracle instances share the same RMAN catalog. This is a disaster recovery of a

Well...my initial analysis for the DBA was that RMAN was allocating 6 channels but 3 active streams were spinning tapes and the 3 waiting streams were waiting on tapes that were currently being resto

Hi, Part of the problem in this scenario is if multiplexing is not being used (or MPX=1), depending on how the RMAN restore works (make sure there are 6 channels allocated from the DBA perspective) a

Import the tapes....? No. Didn't do it before either. Is there a requirement to import the RMAN tapes? +-- +-- _______________________________________________ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu AT mail
Ok this is my understanding, and you will have to look at the logs to make sure. My understanding is that each tape channel defined in rman translates to one netbackup child job on the backup server.
