I'm a bug-fixer and not a network tech, but now one of that tribe has asked
me to help her understand the output from the NetView browser/snmpCollect
as it relates to a Cisco Catalyst WS-C 4006.
The deal is that when you walk the device or just query the interface
table, .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1, for the standard MIB-2 stuff, the interfaces
are numbered 1 to 237. But the network tech knows them by module, slot
and port, as for example, 3/1, 3/2, and so on. So the question is, how
do you map between the two? I thought we could do it by ifPhysAddress,
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.6, but those don't seem to match in this case either, or
so she says. So I'm completely baffled.
Can one of you Cisco-certified wizards advise me?
Many thanks!
