A linkDown trap is a standard SNMP trap. In SNMPv1 it is generic trap 2
specific trap 0.
It can be generated using any enterprise id. You'll find several of
examples of it in trapd.conf.
So the question to ask is what agent (enterprise) are you expecting to send
it?

For example, you might get one from AIX, Microsoft Windows, or some Cisco
device. The enterprise id they would use will depend on how the agent is
constructed.

Here's how you might duplicate such a trap from Cisco using their basic
enterprise id and nvsnmptrap

C:\usr\ov\bin\nvsnmptrap ^
  jshanks.raleigh.ibm.com .1.3.6.1.4.1.9 ^
  cisco.raleigh.ibm.com 2 0 10 ^

In this example "jshanks.raleigh.ibm.com'"is the NetView box the trap is
destined for, while "cisco.raleigh.ibm.com" is to be used as the name of
the sender. The "10" is an arbitrary value chosen to represent timeticks
from last reboot of the sending box.

Note that many vendors expand on the linkDown trap and send proprietary
versions of their own, using a generic id of 6 and a specific id of their
own choosing, so that they can choose what variables to send. The basic
linkDown trap as defined in SNMP has none.

Hi All,

Is there any way I can generate a “linkdown” trap on NetView using
nvsnmptrap command?

nvsnmptrap command requires trap no and specific no. Both are not available
in the traps definition?

Best regards,
