Re: [nv-l] Specifying the source attribute on custom Netview events, and snmptrap

I'm adding custom specifics in the netview
enterprise (customer range 1000--1999). I had integer 14 in varbind1, and
tried 20, to see what that would do, but it did not affect the Source character.
My trap says:
/usr/OV/bin/snmptrap $NVSERVER
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.3.1 $NODE 6 1013 1 \
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.1.1 Integer
20 \
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.1.2 Octetstring
"$NODE" \
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.1.3 Octetstring
"$MESSAGE" \
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.1.4 Octetstring
"$RUN_PROG"
The trace says
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[121] : Attr(Origin='(ulong,322310156)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[121] : Attr(sysUpTime='(ulong,1)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[110] : Attr(Community='(char,xxxxxxx)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[110] : Attr(1='(char,20)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[110] : Attr(2='(char,insesm01.fbp1.ford.com)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[110] : Attr(3='(char,Network
problem on subnet 19.54.16 is making insesm01.fbp1.ford.com Unreachable)')
2005/12/05 14:35:37
EventData.C[110] : Attr(4='(char,nvUnreachable.sh)')
2005/12/05 14:35:38
EventData.C[121] : Attr(Category='(ulong,3)')
2005/12/05 14:35:38
EventData.C[110] : Attr(Source='(char,d)')
2005/12/05 14:35:38
EventData.C[121] : Attr(Severity='(ulong,2)')
I would like that "d" to be
something special, like "Y". But I have not even been able to
make it "V" or "N" yet.

Leslie,
Let me get this straight.
(1) You are sending your own NetView events, ones with the NetView
OID,
using snmptrap.
(2) You see the correct source character, the one you defined, in
the
trapd.log.
(3) You see a "d" in the nvcorrd trace for the source character.
(4) This is peculiar to NetView events, not other enterprises.
Correct?
Are these your own specific ids or ones NetView defines?
What value are you using for varbind 1?

Please respond to
nv-l
Am I imagining this? I was sure that I have, in the past, generated custom
traps with snmptrap, defined them in trapd.conf, and assigned them source
characters (like "A" or "N") and had it work. It
appears to work when you
look at the trap log, but when I look at the nvcorrd trace, I see it is
"d"
no matter what I put in trapd.conf. So if the event comes from inside the
box, perhaps the source character does not get applied until after nvcorrd
has it's crack at it?
I don't see any option on the snmptrap command to affect this value. But
the event command does have an option. I wonder what it is doing?
