RE: [nv-l] What is Default FMT:TEST??

What kind of switch is it? If it's a Cisco Catalyst,
there are a variety of settings that can impact the type and volume of traps it
might send.

Paul,
Yes there are equal number of Type-2 and Type-3
messages, the damn switch is sending a message for every node that goes down,
and as its a LAN so when ever any one shuts down his PC the switch sends this
trap. i ve manually disable the switch to send any kind of traps lets what
happens... Thanks for your response!

Usman, I would expect if you are getting a lot of generic type 2
messages you are also receiveing a large number of generic type 3
messages. It sounds like you have a link that is trying to (re)establish
a link to something(WAN?) and is unsuccessful and (re)tries on a regular
basis to reconnect. This would have an almost equal number of type 2 and
type 3 messages. If you are only receiving type 2 messages, I would think
something is misconfigured on the device itself. Have you checked the
configuration of the switch to see if it is actually configured to send
traps to NetView, or possibly to another network manager that is sending them
to NetView? I can tell you from the trap information that you should take
a look at what is on Interface(port?) 21(ifIndex) and that it is
reporting Administratively Up, but Operationally
down.
