Jane,
If you are still remember this thread.. Here is an
update..
Now when the switch is down almost few hours and the
device on the map still shows green, obviously b'cos
he  did'nt get an interface down trap... 
Now since the switch is down , i cannot ping from the
netview server as well as from GUI... 
Also netmon -12 trace keep showing the the switch with
different interval times.. even now when switch is
down, it does'nt seems to ping the switch at next
shown interval...
I'm kinda of lost here.. so what's the next option..
delete the switch from map and try and re discover..
