Re: [nv-l] FW: Using Netview to find open ports

Khan,
NetView is not a portscanner. I will monitor ports if you so
desire, but it will not identify what is running on that port.
You might want to take a look at nmap(google it), which is an
indespensible network security tool.
Quick blurb from the nmap page:
*Flexible*: Supports dozens of advanced techniques for mapping out
networks filled with IP filters, firewalls, routers, and other
obstacles. This includes many port scanning
<http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap_doc.html> mechanisms (both TCP &
UDP), OS detection
<http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap-fingerprinting-article.html>, version
detection <http://www.insecure.org/nmap/versionscan.html>, ping sweeps,
and more. See the documentation page
<http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap_documentation.html>.

Hello All:
Can we use Netview to query all of the well-known ports (1,024) and
report back on what ports Netview finds open. Can Netview handle this?
