Well, there is NO WAY to add anything to the right-click of an event in the event browser. That menu is not externalized.
But you could do a direct ping by writing an additional action script and add it to trapd.conf (details are in the man page of trapd.conf and in the books) and then the user could highlight the event, pull down the Options --> Additional Actions, and select the ping script you wrote from there. The results would be displayed in a pop-up window.

The reason for invoking the map of course, is so that you could do more operations than just a ping, say demandpoll or quicktest, and see the results reflected in the map immediately. The map also gives you context about the object, plus the ability to right-click that map object for more information about it.

[nv-l] Invoking Ping from event browser

Hi Folks,
My Client was wondering if he can directly ping a device (source of the event) from a selected event in the event browser by right-clicking on it. his reason is that, once he receives an event, he wants to bypass the "right-click on event ==> Highlight Node on Map ==> Opening of the Map where Node is located ==> ping Node" to "right-click on event ==> Ping Node"

Q1: is this advisable ?

Q2: How could this be easily done?

Thanks,

Thank You,
Meyos
