basically treads on linux-2.4 are cloned processes, hence
the
large
number of entries in ps.
this
is no problem but works as designed, linux-2.6 will be
different.

What platform are you running on. There is a known problem with
the way the Linux reports Java threads(each as its own process). When
actually there are only a few java processes running with alot of
threads.
