This feature is only supported on Unix
platforms, as far as I know. Did it get added to Windows recently, Oliver.
Anyway, I often find it useful to add
the ability to do certain things when nodes are added. You can automate
on the trap 'Node Added'. On Unix platforms, I would do this using
a Netview Ruleset. On Windows, I think I would just trigger it right in
the event configuration (trapd). There is a place in there where you can
trigger your own script or bat file or program.
Windows is not my strongest skill, so
I won't go into details here. There are a number of notes on the topic
of event automation in Netview for Windows in the archives of this list.
I would go about it this way, however. First, customize the event to call
your bat file, passing it the name of the node from the trap ($2). I know
you have to give it the whole path to your bat file. Just have it write
to a log until you get the invocation figured out. And practice at the
commandline using the smartsetutil command to query field values for the
node. The field you are looking for is 'isSNMPSupported' (try ovobjprint
-s <nodename> to see all of the fields). And try the nvmaputil command
for managing and unmanaging a node. Once you have mastered the syntax,
add them to your bat file.
I find all sorts of uses for a hook
like this.

Re: Re: Re: [nv-l] Auto Unmanage To Objects |
according to the the oid_to_type man page there have to be spaces between
the colons:
------
DEFAULT_IP Enables you to specify certain default
characteristics for
nodes without SNMP (or nodes with SNMP but with incorrect
community
names). For example, to have nodes without SNMP discovered
as
unmanaged, add the following line to the oid_to_type
file:
DEFAULT_IP: : :U
Ensure that you place spaces between the colons.

Re: [nv-l] Auto Unmanage To Objects |
You can use oid_to_type to discover non-snmp nodes as unmanaged.
Make the LAST entry in this file:
DEFAULT_IP:::U
That is 3 colon symbols, no spaces, in the middle.
Cheers,
Jane
