Another alternative would be to just clear the databases and leave
everything else. That's and option under "Maintain" in serversetup. You
can even choose an additional option to maintain your smartsets too. Then
rediscovery is controlled by the seed file, assuming you have already set
that up. Then all your conf files are preserved. You can do this any
time, before or after you re-install. You could do it now to see what
you'll get after the OS migration.

If you have to wipe out NetView, then you could always use the "Maintain"
backup selective data function to backup selected data from /usr/OV. This
creates an entire directory structure /usr/OV.back.v7r1 which you can tar
up and store on tape or move elsewhere. Then when you re-install you can
do a migration (upgrade) installation and it will preserve what you have.
You could clear the databases after that to start over any time you like.
You might even want to install clean and keep the (renamed) backup
directory around to pull files from if you decided you want them later.
Your choice.

I think this is easier than trying to decide what conf files to save, but
that's just my view.

I would have a close look at everything in /usr/OV/conf - location.conf
and ovsnmp.conf are 2 others I would add to your list. If you have
created NetView rulesets, back up /usr/OV/conf/rulesets/* along with
/usr/OV/conf/ESE.automation. Have you created any MIB expressions -
/usr/OV/conf/mibExpr.conf. If you have lots of data collections set up
- /usr/OV/conf/snmpCol.conf............

Cheers,
Jane
