If this is a Solaris device (or even if it isn't) try this

snmpget <device> systems.sysName.0

If you get any response OTHER than a time out, (as you will on Solaris) then
NETMON assumes you have a valid community name and goes forward.

Subject: [nv-l] xnmsnmpconf

NetView 6.0.3 AIX 4.3.3

I am having issues with several nodes and their community strings.

The node is listed as not supporting SNMP in its description, although it
does have SNMP enabled.

I run the xnmsnmpconf -res hostname and it shows an incorrect community
name. I launch xnmsnmpconf and added the hostname specifically and the
correct community name. I go back to the command line and run xnmsnmpconf
-clearCache and then look it up again and I still have the wrong community
name. I looked to make sure there was not an issue with the subnet being
defined somewhere else in the configuration and that doesn't seem to be the
issue.

Has anyone else seen this? Am I missing something?

Thanks,
