Anyone know if the procedures described below by James work as well when
'cloning' a server from Solaris to AIX?
(currently at Solaris 2.6 migrating to AIX 5.1 or 5.2):

The standard way to do this is to use the built-in NetView facilities.
Basically it is the same procedure discussed here many times before to
clone a NetView.

First you use serversetup Migrate to make a back-up of your databases and
customized config files.
This creates a complete directory structure, /usr/OV.back.v6r1
Then you tar up that entire directory structure and ftp it to your new box.
Then you install NetView on the new box using the "upgrade" path.

As long as you specify upgrade, the installation scripts will look for that
directory structure and merge its contents as part of the install,
preserving your customizations.

You can do this right now with NetView Version 6, too, and clone your
current set up, or you can use the opportunity to upgrade to NetView 7.1
since 6.0.3 is already out of support. If you do Version 6, then you will
have to install Framework on the NetView box first. With NetView Version
7.1, the Framework is no longer required and if you don't need it for
something else, then you need not install it.

Looking for any and all advice or caveats relative to the following
scenario:

We have a HIGHLY CUSTOMIZED Netview 6.0.3 installation on a Solaris 2.6 box
which we want to migrate to a Solaris 8 box so that we can get up to 7.1.3.

Our UNIX support people are EXTREMELY reluctant to upgrade the current 2.6
box to 2.8 because in their words, 'it almost never works'. And I think
they're right. They would want us to scratch and install Solaris 8 on the
current box and then rebuild our NV environment from the ground up.
Something WE don't want to do.

Is this as simple as porting the /opt/OV stuff from the old box to the new
box and then running a v6.x install on the new box? If not, I am open to
all suggestions.

Thanks.
