All,
Aren't patches like this made available to all NetView users? I didn't see
libnvsnmp.a listed among the patches and APARs, but I may have botched up
the search.

Subject: Antwort: RE: [NV-L] Demand Poll SNMP Timeouts
Hi all,
The SNMP-Problem in 6.0.1 is a problem with other communities as global
(most public). If you use alternate communities in the ovsnmp.conf with
IP-Adress or IP-Adress with wildcards then you get a timeout by
nmdemandpoll. You don't get a timeout, if you use a hostname or smartset in
ovsnmp.conf.
I have tested the E-Fix (new libnvsnmp.a). The fix corrected the problem for
alle nodes with IP-Adress in ovsnmp.conf. In the IP-Adress region with
wildcards is always a bug.
best regards
Uwe

If the router is configured in your SNMP conf using the IP address for the
device, then this is a known problem in NV6.0.1. I had the same problem
(PMR 56166,BRE00) and support finally sent me a new version of the
libnvsnmp.a library. You should probably contact support to get this fix.

Subject: [NV-L] Demand Poll SNMP Timeouts
Running NetView 6.0.1 under AIX 4.3.2:
Whenever I do a Demand Poll of routers that
NetView has discovered and found to be routers,
the SNMP portion of the Demand Poll times out.
I can do SNMP queries of those routers from the
command line just fine. I didn't think the timeout
value in the SNMP configuration was an SNMP timeout,
but as a try I changed one of the timeout values on
a router to 60 seconds, but still got Demand Poll
SNMP timeouts.
Main reason for my doing Demand Polls is to prod
NetView into realizing that a node it has discovered
is really a router.
Two questions:
1. Why am I getting these Demand Poll SNMP timeouts
and is there anything I can do about it?
2. What SNMP queries is the Demand Poll doing? If I
knew I could simulate them at the command line and
be sure the router responds correctly.
Thanks,
Les Dickert
