Michael,

One of your bitmap files will probably be corrupt.

I've had the same problem : one of my  /usr/OV/bitmaps/C files had size 0.
After restoring this file from backup and executing ovw -fields and ovw 
-config, the problem was solved.

This error is well documented.

Whenever I run nv6000, I receive:

"Error during reading background file. Press ok"

It repeats all the time. Mine is AIX.
