Has anyone had the problem of wanting to add an additional SNMP manager (or
several managers) to an environment, but requiring you to add SNMP entries
for polling and traps on ALL agents (routers, hubs, switches, servers,
etc...) that the new manager(s) will be managing? Has anyone implemented an
SNMP proxy that ALL SNMP requests/traps go through before forwarding onto
the actual manager that requested the info.? I am wondering if this is a
possible real solution to avoid reconfiguring ALL SNMP agents when we
add/change SNMP management systems in our environment? I am wondering if we
can configure the SNMP agents to accept queries from the IP address of the
proxy system and send SNMP traps to the proxy system? The proxy system
could then forward the traps and responses to SNMP queries to the
appropriate management system - does such software exist? If so, what are
its implications if implemented?
