Just being cautious but that won’t expire the images on the tape will it?  It will only remove the bar code from the inventory, correct?  I can read the following from the man page a couple ways:

-deassignempty

                Searches the catalog for the removable media that no longer

                contain valid backups. It removes the media from the media

                catalog and removes the media IDs in the Media Manager

                catalog. The media is then available to use again. You can

                use the NetBackup Images on Media report to determine if the

                assigned media no longer contains valid backups.

Will the tapes need to be imported after doing the above?

I’ve tried deleting the media but I’m getting :

 

“cannot delete assigned volume 001446.  Cannot delete assigned media”

 

Any thoughts?

It might be because they registered as another media type already

 

I would try to delete the media and then rerun the inventory

Our environment, HP-UX 11-31 currently running one master / media server on NetBackup 6.5.2.  (I know, 6.5 is getting old, we are trying to plan an upgrade..)  We are running mostly unix / Linux backups and a couple windows b/u’s thrown in for good measure.

My bar code rules appear to be correct, it’s showing the 1^st 6 positions of the tape and leaving off the L1.  Anyone know why it thinks it’s new media and not unique and won’t let me inventory these tapes?
