Can you explain why "HP and SUN fell of quite fast"?

I've dealt with STKs in a couple of places, and never really had any issues 
with them (the last being 'just' an SL500). At the place I'm currently at 
there's a Quantum i2000 that's a bit troublesome but, as I've only been here a 
short time, I'm not sure if that's the library's fault or something else in the 
environment.
