We use a similar set up, except we do the monthly on the first weekend of the month.  An example of one of our policies is...

Daily - Mon – Thursday

Weekly – Every Friday EXCEPT for the first Friday of the month

Monthly – First Friday of the month

I also have “retries allowed after runday” for the Monthly so that if something happens to cause it to fail on the first Friday of the month, the next Friday it will run a Monthly backup.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Backup Schedules

Hi Gurus,

Here is my scenario:

Daily Backups (cinc) should run Monday – Friday (18:00 – 06:00 per day)

Weekly Backups (full) should run every weekend (Sat 06:00 – Monday 06:00) except for the last Weekend.

Monthly backups (full) should run only on the last weekend of the month.

We are using Netbackup scheduler and used to painfully select and deselect dates based on the schedules that they should run for the Weekly/Monthly backups so as to not duplicate/conflict schedules.

Is there a more streamlined way of achieving this?

I have read through the sysadmin guides and they mention that frequency takes precedence when multiple schedules are configured over the same timeframe, however calendar based scheduling does not use frequency.

Here is my idea:

All backups should be based on calendar schedule:

Dailys – Mon,Tues,Wed,Thurs,Fri.

Weeklys – Sat (All)

Monthlys – Sat (Last)

I am hoping that due to the inherent longer frequency in a monthly job (between runs) that it would take precedence over the weekly on the last Saturday.

Your views?

Regards,

Sumeeth
