The question to ask is if you are seeing (or suspect) any degraded performance due to high catalog activity? If you aren't, then I wouldn't worry about the cost or complexity of splitting up your catalog.

Our catalog components are not split up, but we do dedicate a separate RAID 10 (FC disk) volume to the catalog, and put the logs on a separate volume.

You may want to look at this...

I for one prefer to keep everything in one location on a RAID5 Volume, and ensure I just have good Hot Catalog Backups all the time!

Hello all;
We have three parts in netbackup catalog: image, configuration, relational database.
Do you suggest to separate some of them into different file systems?
/usr/openv is on different  SAN file system from root file system.
In addition to this, before nb installation, is it advisable to separate for instance images onto different file system?
We have some SSD besides SAN.
We are thinking to separate some parts of catalog to SSD?
What would the best practice be?
Bes regards;
