One thing to be aware of: if you have multiple ESX servers managed by the same VCenter to insure there are no duplicate host names I.E. including the default template VM.  Once you get the IP working you will be a couple steps closer:)

My experience has been that they didn’t have the vmware tools installed, so vcenter couldn’t grab the guest’s hostname and ip address.

Not sure if that’s the case with yours, but you may want to double-check that.

Can anyone explain why when trying to setup a policy for 4 new VMs, all I get in the client browse window (when trying to add the new clients to the policy) are 4 gray icons with an empty space for the name? I select them and get an error that they cannot be added with a blank hostname. They are now up, but they do not have an IP that will communicate with vCenter currently, but they are working on getting that done. Any ideas?

Thanks,
