Firewall? Try to telnet <hostname> vnetd from the client to the Master and Media servers.

You can also try using this command:
bptestbpcd -client <clientname> -debug
Run this from Master and Media servers. Debug gives you the most output and isn't documented, -verbose gives you a little less output, and no switch gives you only a couple of lines.

nslookup work fine from/to all three servers on both name and IP address?

I have following configuration

 

Master server - Solaris 9 - NB6.5.4

 

Media server  - Solaris 9 - NB6.5.4

 

Client - Win2003 SP2 - NB6.5.4

 

Issue : Backup starts and goes to hung state without writing any data  :
