I have seen status 6 messages for Oracle and the majority of the time
they are related to the RMAN script. It depends upon the script and how
it is written where that log file will be located. Sometimes it's a
.out file in the directory where the script is; but more often than not,
the DBA's have changed the path to a log directory. What you will be
interested is at the end of the log, there should be a ======ERROR======
message, to explain what didn't work with RMAN. Sometimes, the policy
has changed on Netbackup, but needs to be updated in the script, or the
client name has changed. It usually is pretty simple solution if it has
been working before.

My experience with Error 6 errors are with database backups, usually
Oracle but I've seen it from time to time with MSSQL. The agent usually
leaves a log file that explains what the real problem is.

In windows, it's in the C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\
Depending on your database type, it's bpdb(something). You may need to
run the mklogdir script to generate them.
In Unix/Linux (I've only used Oracle), it generates a .out file wherever
your RMAN script is located.

First place I would look is if there are child processes. Very often the
parent fails with a 6 but the child will tell you something more
specific.
