What I have done before to solve this issue.

Enter the client/server name + ip in the host file.

Another issue that I have seen is where an ACL was blocking port 137.

I was able to telnet to the netbackup ports..

What are you pinging, the IP or FQDN? Sounds like a name resolution issue from 
the client to master

We have a Solaris master server and windows vm client on 5.1

We can telnet, ping, traceroute, getconfig and anything else you can think of 
to each other.  

The problem we are having is when we go to the host properties > clients > 
<clietn>, it takes forever and a day to connect, it should time out, but never 
does.

It does this on both the client and the master.

traceroute is only one hop and comes back instantly as does the telnets and 
pings.

If more information is needed please ask.
