That would require NetBackup to be open source which is most assuredly
isn't.

If you want to look into open source backup solutions you should check
out Bacula and Amanda.  Those are the 2 I see most discussion about in
Linux forums.  I haven't used either myself since we have NBU for all
our systems (Linux, HP-UX and Windows).
