There is a Symantec / Veritas upgrade checklist link you could also use, but
yes I believe Win2k3 Ent is the platform the advisor would recommend.

If you are going to new Hardware, then is your NBU7 going to be "migrated" over
to a new System, so you have new Servername, IP address, clients pointing to
new Master Server, ect?

If you were looking at retaining "everything" as it is, and also moving to new
hardware, then I would suggest ensuring you have a good clean backup image of
your Master Server and OS "as is" and then do the Enterprise upgrade.

But as you state; Your looking at moving to win2k8, you could I guess:

1) Backup Master "as is"
2) Upgrade to Win2k3 Ent
3) Get new hardware installed (When it arrives)
4) Install Win2k3 Ent and then install NetBackup Master + MP + Tape drives /
robots + Drivers and do a Hot Catalog recovery
5) Upgrade to Win2k8 !

But I just feel it may be a bit messy. I usually only do 1 or 2 upgrades and
then start afresh where possible.

Symantec Professional Services could help, but I think if I was in your boat, I
would be looking at doing a clean install on Clean Hardware, on a clean OS. But
that is just my preferance.

Pretty sure one of my other environments is standard, and its no real tear
jerker as they are not planning to move.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Win2003 Standard vs Enterprise - NBU 7 upgrade

Hello guys,

I'm running 6.5.3 and I'm planning an upgrade to NBU 7 and then later I also
plan a hardware-refresh (move from Win2k3 to Win2008 R2).

While checking the compatiblity list for NBU 6.X and 7, I noticed that , for a
master server, only "Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1" is supported (for the
Win2k3 family). We are running "Windows 2003 Standard Edition". I just found
out this (on this inherited server :(

My question for you guys is: Should I be concerned about the fact that I'm
running "Standard" and not the certified "Enterprise" edition before starting
the upgrade process to NBU 7? So far, NBU 6.5.3 has been runnig almost
perfectly for the last years. I thought about doing the "Win2k3 Standard" to
"Enterprise" upgrade but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Besides, I plan to
do a hardware-refresh after the upgrade (and switch from Win2k3 to Win20008 R2).

Thanks,
Jorge
