Hello Flashbackup Gurus,
No success in searching the archives for this answer, but
maybe someone has the quick answer or can point me to it. Trying to
setup FlashBackup for Windows for the first time, using VSS. No instant
recovery/array snapshots etc. I think I may be running into a VMWare
limitation/restriction, but would like to confirm my setup was correct (I’m
trying to test this method as a proof-of-concept for a physical machine, not a
VM).
Environment:
Master = Solaris 10, NBU 6.5.3.1
Client = W2k3, 32-bit, NBU 6.5GA, VM guest on ESX cluster
Install/Config steps performed:
1.
Install Snapshot Client from the UnixOptions CD on the master
(was this even necessary? )
2.
Install Snapshot Client license on master server,
cycled services.
3.
Installed NBU 6.5 GA on Windows client
4.
Enabled Shadow Copies on the D: volume of the client,
confirmed I can take manual shadow copies.
5.
Created a policy of “FlashBackup-Windows”
type.
a. Snapshot
method = VSS, with default values 0-0-1
b. Backup
Selections = \\.\D:
6.
Ran a manual backup that failed with SC 11.
7.
Logging into the client, a C++ Runtime error appears
during every backup attempt.
Looking at the bpfis log on the client, I’m
thinking the fact that it’s a VMWare client is the issue:

Any thoughts on my setup? Did I botch something?
Cheers,
