SAN Client means the client is the Media Server, but can only back itself up. You need to have the SAN client be zoned to the tape library or disk location you want to back up to. At the same time, if you are doing this to a tape library, you need to have the shared storage option licensed for that tape library, even if the SAN client is the only client accessing that library. From what I’ve been told, this works fantastically, especially if you have large amounts of data to back up from a particular client. In the near future, I intend on using this on my Oracle servers, and combining it with the snapshot client. Should be able to quiesce data on the Oracle database, create a snapshot, mount the snapshot back to the client, and back up the flat files, all without involving the media server, or network.

Hi All
Currently looking into the SAN Client / Fibre Transport clients.
Wondered if anyone else has implemented this on 6.5 and any pros cons?

While readin the SS Guide - it seems to imply you need a "Media" Server, but does not really explain if you can use a "Master" Server for this (even though a Master / Media Server is on the same box)? From the looks, it seems that I need an FT Media Server to handle this !

Any comments would be appreicated, even if it is a "dont do it"  :-)

Regards

Simon
