I don't know a great deal about MSSQL so bear with me. I think the answer to this might actually be out of an MSSQL book rather than Netbackup but hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on this.

I've successfully backed-up a MSSQL DB before and effectively copied the working policy and changed a few things (copied the working .bch file to the new SQL server and updated policy to point to this new file).
When I ran the backup, it exited with status 2. I then logged onto the SQL server in question and ran NetBackup MS SQL Client config, where it asked me to configure. I put the host in and it was having problems. Eventually I looked at OBDC and looked at SQL DBs and noticed the DB was listed as server SQLSERVER\WHATSUP (I've called the host SQLSERVER in this email rather than the actual hostname). I then modified the .bch file and renamed host entry to SQLSERVER\WHATSUP and now it's working.

My question is will this be backing-up the databases I need to backup (is there any way to verify this easily?)? Why did I need to specify SQLSERVER\WHATSUP rather than just the hostname of the server (previously I've only had to specify actual hostname of server)? I'd guess most of this is due to the way it was setup (which was done by someone else) but I'm really trying to understand how Netbackup connects with SQL and to make sure I haven't missed any DBs with the way I've configured this.

Cheers,
