Hello, I have a question about media servers in a DR environment.
I have a procedure which was written by the Administrator that setup our
Netbackup environments here and at DR that explains how to perform a DR
restore. This administrator is no longer here so she's not available for
questions.
In her procedure, she has me issue the following command to change the
media server used to restore the tapes:
bpimage -oldserver the_original_media_server_that_did_the_backup
-newserver my_DR_media_server
I've seen this command run and finish in 10 seconds and I've seen it
take half an hour.
I've been having some status code 5's at my DR site for a while, and I
downloaded Symantec's guide off the support site. Towards the end, I
noticed that there is an entry you can put in the bp.conf file of your
master server:
FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = original_server new_server
Does this accomplish the same thing as my bpimage command? I put the
entry in bp.conf for my environment and tried to kick off a restore
without using bpimage and I got the message:
"04/02/2009 08:48:11 - awaiting resource CM5803. Waiting for resources.
Reason: Tape media server is not active, Media server: delphidr,
Robot Type(Number): TLD(0), Media ID: N/A, Drive Name: N/A,
Volume Pool: N/A, Storage Unit: N/A, Drive Scan Host: N/A"
I tried restarting netbackup and got the same error again. My questions are:
1) Does bpimage -oldserver ServerA -newserver ServerB accomplish the
same thing as FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = ServerA ServerB?
If yes, why am I getting the error above?
Also, is one method better than the other or are they just two different
ways to accomplish the same goal?
2) If the two commands I've discussed don't accomplish the same goal,
what is the difference between the two?
Thank you all for your time.
