First, I'll talk about what's supported if you do it yourself.

If the master server is server A, then the name can not be changed.  Additionally, the architecture can't change.  So, support-wise, you're on your own unless you contract with Symantec.

That said, I'd be surprised if what you're doing won't work with a bit of effort.  Because you're Unix all the way, and in the end the master server's host name won't change, I think that you should be able to get away with installing the master server software on B, reconfiguring the devices, and then rsync'ing the catalog from A to B.  Then change the name from B to A.  As long as you've used DNS all the way, the IP addresses shouldn't matter.

I think you can pull it off, but if it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.  Once everything is up and working, you should be able to get support on your new config.  However, don't try and call them if you have trouble getting the services functioning on B or you'll deserve what you get :-)

Greetings and thought I'd ask the talent here 1st:

Server A is going away.
Customer want to keep the Netbackup "backups" for data recovery.
Customer wants to move the Netbackup environment over to server B.

Server A - HP-UX Superdome, IA64 O/S
Server B - IBM Server, AIX 5.3 O/S

Server A's name will change to server C
Server B's name will change to server A

The IP address from server A can NOT be moved as there are applications hard coded with server A's IP address.

Can Netbackup and it's catalog be moved over to Server B (to be renamed A) with a different IP address, different O/S, and different hardware platform??

\Or are we looking at contracting with Symantec Netbackup Consulting Services to do a catalog migration/hack???
