As I am forced to think about it this would have to be my problem.  Those images files are written by an itanium binary that the PA-RISC binaries aren't capable of reading.  Time to squat on a new DR server.

Ed,

Thanks.  The section on "Recovery without Import" seems to cover what I'm trying to do.  It does bring up two things.  It does list a replication method like what I'm trying (only via NFS and a link), but also points out the method of restoring from catalog.  I'll have to try that if the replication method won't work.

The thing that concerns me, and perhaps is causing the problem with the rsync/scp is that when we upgraded to 6.5 we did a migration and moved from an HP-UX PA-RISC 11.11 system to a HP-UX Itanium 11.23 system.  The DR server remains PA-RISC 11.11, and this might well be the cause of the problem, especially in light of one of the listed restrictions for Recovery w/out Import:

The primary and secondary domain Master Servers must run the same operating system and version of NetBackup

Hmm, we may be in need to move the DR server to an Itanium 11.23 system.

G.

I think you want to read this whitepaper:

Greetings.

When we had a 5.1 master we would use rsync utility (essentially a smart scp) to sync up the db/images/<hostname> directories of our critical servers with the disaster-recovery master.  This would allow us to run the phase I import of the tapes, but there would be no need to run phase II, the catalog verified those images were there.

Now with both systems at 6.5(.2a) I'm finding this not to be the case.  And boy is phase II import of multiplexed backups slow!

Good method out there to skip the phase II portion of the import process with 6.5?  Or is there simply another directory I need to include with my rsync script now?
