This is not supported at this time - that's why Symantec Support isn't helping you.  It's *hard* and you'll have to wait until at least 7.0 to have a supported solution.

Right now, your main priority is to upgrade hardware.  Do that step, keeping the master server hostname exactly the same as it was before.  You should be able to go through the supported mechanism of decommissioning your old media servers.  Then configure the tape tape library and add the 2 media servers.  Remember that the media server doesn't hold a lot of information like it did in earlier releases.

Once everything is up and running, then you can consider the convoluted unsupported challenge of changing the master server hostname.

For now, do as little in each step as you can.  If it was me, I'd probably do all of the media servers first and tackle the master last.

Hi all,
This is the first time I e-mail the group for help..

I am in the process of upgrading hardware on all our backup systems.

Here are my challenges and hoping that someone will enlighten me as I have not got anywhere with Symantec Support.

Old hardware consist of:
1 master server (e450) Solaris 9
4 media servers (n1405)
Tape library L700e with 8 fiber drives

New hardware consist of:
1 master server (t5140) Solaris 10
2 media servers (t5140)
Same tape library

I want to migrate the catalog from the old system using the online catalog backup method.
My main issue is that in this process we want to change the hostname of the master and media server.

Does anyone knows a way to do this?
I have tried doing an online backup on the old system, recovered the backup on the new system but the recovery failed to restore the following files.

13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/EMM_DATA.db      is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/EMM_INDEX.db     is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/NBDB.db  is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/NBDB.log.1       is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/databases.conf   is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/server.conf      is not in the true image list. Skipping.
13:43:47 (67.xxx) /opt/openv/db/staging/vxdbms.conf      is not in the true image list. Skipping.

I did the same on a Windows master server and I was successful but I don't know what I missed on a Solaris system.

Thanks all
