Re: [Veritas-bu] Oracle Agent Restore prob

Good Morning Dave,
1) Yes they can do a simultaneous multiplex restore at the same time. The
streams just have to all start within the netbackup configuration time for this
function. That is netbackup holds the start for a small configured time and all
the multiplex channels that are going to run at the same time have to be set up
in that small configured time.
2) You did not report if this was a redirected restore this does require a
config change. See the Netbackup Oracle book. The one thing that we noticed was
that the book talks about setting up the config parms in the bp.conf file, but
our Oracle DBA's found that they had to be set up in the unix session
environment variables also.
3) To figure out the problem look at the Netbackup Oracle book for the Oracle
agent client debug logs to turn on. Most likely you will find the error in
those files. You might have to sit down with a dba and compare errors between
the Oracle and netbackup logs.
Good Luck len

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Oracle Agent Restore prob
Guys i am running Netbackup 6.0MP4 Solaris Master plus 3 x NB6.0MP4 SSO
Media servers which are running oracle RAC.
I have oracle policies set up for these and i initiate an oracle rman
script (written by dba's) which works out which media server is running
the oracle instance and launches its backup.
The dbas are now trying to do a restore as follows :-
a) Restore database configuration file [spfile]
b) Restore database control file
c) Restore database files.
a) & b) work fine and i can see on netbackup the control file being
restored.
The problem is step c) is not doing anything and the DBA is trying to
blame the backups or the config somewhere and i just can't see where a
problem is.
When hes trying to restore the database files i see no job on the job
monitor, and i don't even see any extra netstsat -a communications to
the media server from the master other than the ones which are running
as standard.
I cant see anything in messages on the master or media and am unclear
what other logs to look in.
Anyone know how i can prove its the dba rman restore script or if its
netbackup at all? Surely i'd see a job in the monitor or something??
Also he's asking about doing multiple restore channels at the same time
as he backs up using 4 channels. To me thats trying to do a simultaneous
multiplex restore is this possible???
Any help/pointers appreciated
Cheers
