Whenever something stops working the first question I ask is what has changed.  

You stated the device path changed.  Does this mean that you are now using a 
set of different hba's?  Are both hba's the same?  If they are different you 
should consider a a firmware update on the hba that is not working correctly 
and a driver update as well.
