I don't see much of a problem to run it on Windows, at my previews jobs I ran it on UNIX, and now Windows, I don't have any problems and I have mix Windows and UNIX media servers. But, it depends on your environment, I have just a couple of hundred systems and the catalog is not so big. If you work in a totally Windows shop, then it will be Windows, if it is mixed or more UNIX then Windows and really big number of the systems with a lot of amount of data, then UNIX.

I know it could be bugs on UNIX, and I saw them too in older versions as well.

Hi Folks,

I was in the NetBackup class this week, and just got another note for a bug within 6.5.2 and that will be fixed in coming 6.5.2A scheduled on July 13. Just Windows Master Servers are affected, in case if the backup policies have all_local_drives under selection, then after the upgrade any incremental backups for those policies will be run as full.

again, lesson learned, don't rush to apply any updates in the production, wait until it is fully tested. I am at 6.5.1 and wait for a while now...

Not that I've seen yet (one week production in one environment, upgraded the other today, a couple of weeks testing prior to that). But I seem to recall that your environments are larger and slightly more varied than mine...

Even if there are bugs introduced, I felt compelled to upgrade for the ability to do Exchange 2007 backups from the inactive CCR node rather than the active one. That's a huge win.

Thanks Gabriel.

Other than the hot catalog backup bug, are there any other bugs in 6.5.2 that are not also there in 6.5.1?  In other words, should anything stop somebody from upgrading from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2?

Thanks again,

I know of a bug (and we have engineering binaries to cover it both on the HP-UX master and on the Win2k3 clients) specific to Win2k3 Active Directory servers (portions of the SYSVOL cannot be restored).

So far as I know, there's no bug report published on that as yet. That's been present since 6.5 and Symantec has told us they expect to include the fix in 6.5.4.

(This one's not Windows-specific, it requires engineering binaries on both master and client.)

Can you be more specific about "missing files during the restore process"?  Do you mean that you run a restore and some data is missing?  Is this file level data, or an agent?  If you have a specific test you did that failed, I'd like to duplicate in my 6.5.2 environment.

We're waiting on 6.5.2a for the windows side of the house as we are experiencing a ton of issues with instability, errors and missing files during the restore process.

Mark,

Is this with windows or UNIX as well ?  My 6.5.2 Solaris 10 install seems to be running fine with some critical policies listed.

Jay,

The critical policies issue was raised by another member of this mailing list a while ago but even after removing these from the policy, the catalog will still fail every now and then.  It appears to be an issue with nbdbm database verification but they have been unable to debug it yet.  I hadn't heard  of 6.5.2 until I talked with support yesterday, hence my question.

Thanks

July 10th is the release date.

Here's a note about the catalog backup issue:
