Aptare (and Bocada BackupReporter, and EMC's new reporting product, and
so forth) are all doing something mind-numbingly simple to get this
information: they either run bpdbjobs -report -all_columns (you may only
need -most_columns) or query the (no API explicitly provided by
Symantec, so do so at your own risk) underlying job DB and reformat the
data.

Getting "just the previous day" out of bpdbjobs is a bit more
complicated, partly because it doesn't take -s/d and -e flags, as many
of the NBU CLI utilities do), but also because the definition of "day"
of backups will vary by site (based on your business's idea of a backup
window), but if you're comfortable doing math in seconds-since-epoch,
it's not hard.

The -all_columns format used to be described decently in the bpdbjobs
man page, but it appears, on the NBU 6.5 and 6.5.1 systems I just look
at, that that file is mangled in the distribution media. Cute. (It was
still there in full in 5.1MP5, I believe.)

That said, for what Anil's asking here, simply configuring
BPDBJOBS_COLDEFS in bp.conf (which is described in the Unix/Linux Admin
Guide vol II) and running regular old bpdbjobs should be enough.

This probably won't be much help but we get a daily report from Aptare
that shows exactly what you want.

The following list of server backups WERE NOT successful:

ep-wvt-ap38a 58 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 17:56:30
ep-wvt-ap79 58 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 17:56:20

NOTICE: The following list of server backups completed successfully:

bsmaster 1 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 18:57:10
bsmaster 1 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 19:05:20
bsmaster 1 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 19:12:30
cc-nta5 1 bsmaster 29-MAY-08 21:03:20

etc - etc...

It shows client name, status and completion time and date

The report runs a query against the database into a text file which can
be e-mailed

Hi
I am good in writing script in TSM but not in NBU. I want to write
script or other easy way which will email one report every morning which
will have one line for each client saying whether backup Failed,
Completed or Missed with their status next to each client name . Is
there way ?

Report should look like
===================
Backup Start Backup finish Client Name
Status
-------------------- -------------------- -------------
-------------
05/27/08 18:00:00 05/27/08 18:12:05 BWPW37
Failed
05/27/08 18:00:00 05/27/08 18:03:52 BWPW59
Completed

Thanks again.
