One thing you might look at is the new version of PureDisk. Put a PureDisk server at the remote site, back up to it, and then replicate the de-duped data. You'll have to check if PureDisk supports Netware but the latest version allows you to use it as a NetBackup storage unit so I would expect all client types to work.

If you can't get more bandwidth, reducing the amount of data you push across the network is really your only option. If PureDisk won't do it, there are other de-dupe appliances that could help, or as a last resort, put a tape library at the remote site and vault your tapes offsite.

Check your bits and bytes. I would expect your WAN connection to be 2 MBits/second (the common unit of measurement) and the NBU speed to be 160KBytes/second. 160KBytes/second is roughly 1.6MBits/second and you're not going to get much better than that - a WAN accelerator product may help but that's outside the scope of NetBackup.
