I'm glad you posted that you are on Win2K3, SP whatever.  My first thought was 
to tell you about VSS until I saw you were on Win2K.  Yes, I have been fighting 
a vicious VSS memory leak for over 18 months on Win2K3 SP1 and SP2.  This 
pertained to file serving, not backups per say, but backups do exacerbate the 
memory leak.  Finally got a systems engineer at Microsoft who found a VSS 
hotfix, which came out prior to my first call to MS 18 months ago (it figures). 
 Only took 5 systems engineers to get this to us.  I then found that the hotfix 
is included in a VSS update rollup pack, which I will install next week to take 
advantage of a second VSS hotfix.

You should look at KB 940349.  The system engineer has already advised me to 
install this over the top of the prior hotfix he sent me.

For WMI I chanced upon another article that I am going to install once all the 
VSS issues are out of the way.  Take a look at 933061.  I dont do a lot with 
WMI but have seen WMI warnings and errors so I want to stabilize that function 
if there is fixes available.

I have used NBU since 4.5  My recollection was I had the best 5.1 performance 
and stability on MP3.  I tried MP4 but it was buggy.  I was able to roll back 
to MP3 successfully and stayed there until 6.0 MP1.  I am now on 6.0 MP5 and it 
is working fairly well on Win2K3 SP2.
