One interesting architecture to consider is the use of Flashbackup with
a deduplicating VTL.  Since the raw filesystem comes across as a single
big stream to the VTL, the deplication technology can process it like a
big file and only backup the changed blocks.  So you do one big backup
the first time you backup the filsystem, and then after that, you only
backup the pieces that change, while still realizing the benefits of
Flashbackup.
