If you're using Advanced Client backups (proxy copy for Oracle), you'll
get straight filenames for the datafiles, and some pieces (Oracle RMAN
"pseudo" filenames) for the logs, control files etc. (This is for NBU
5.1 which is the only version for which I have experience of proxy copy
backups).

I guess if you have written your RMAN script to do both proxy copy and
"normal" backups, you would get something like this - 2 backups of the
data effectively.

cheers, Phil

That seems strange, I'm not sure you should have straight filenames from
RMAN, at least on a hot backup, just pieces. Is this a cold image?

Ok, but if I build a list from the file lists in each job submitted to
the master server during the RMAN backup, I will already have a list of
all of the actual data files PLUS a bunch of these piece handle files.
The total size is almost 2x the actual database like it is backing up
the entire thing twice.
