If your guests are Windows, then 6.5.1 (available now) should do the trick for you. If your guests are Linux, then wait for a while longer - I believe that 6.5.2 will address them.

The doc "NetBackup for VMware Configuration" makes reference to a version "6.5.x" where this along with SAN based backups of virtual machines via a VMware backup proxy server will be supported. I'm setting up an environment which has network constraints making backups over the LAN not a pretty option.
