Our environment is HP-UX 11.11, Netbackup 5.1 MP3 backing up
mostly HP Unix.
I’m cleaning up some frozen tapes and wondered what
the group uses to determine if a tape should be discarded or unfrozen and put
back into NetBackup. I ran a bpmedialist –summary report and grep’d
out the FROZEN tapes. Then I looked at the
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/errors log and matched up my frozen tapes with
the errors in the log. The errors I have are either WRITE_ERROR,
POSITION_ERROR, OPEN_ERROR or READ_ERROR. Does anyone automatically
discard any tapes if they get any of these errors? How do I know if it
was an actual tape error or one caused by the drive? I could unfreeze all
the tapes, keep a closer eye on them and if it happens again get rid of the
tape but I’m a little hesitant to do that right before the Holidays.
Thanks in advance, any input on this is appreciated.
