I've been asked to configure a Netbackup 5.1 backup solution for a 3 way
Netware 6.x cluster. One of the Netware servers would be configured as
an NDMP Media server. Before I dive into the documentation, can anyone
tell me if Netbackup in this configuration is Cluster aware?

Thanks

This is for NetBackup 6.5 Linux

Every day I'm getting the following errors:

10/16/2007 07:02:56 ptclvsbkp01.nmplateaugsm.com -
sts_get_lsu_prop_byname on LSU /csg failed: 2060013 no more entries

device: /csg no more entries

10/16/2007 07:02:56 ptclvsbkp01.nmplateaugsm.com - failure to open disk
at path /csg: plug-in reports error 2060013 no more entries

10/16/2007 07:02:56 ptclvsbkp01.nmplateaugsm.com - volume /csg does not
exist or is not available.

Path /csg doesn't exist, at one time it did but at the beginning it was
changed and split in two to /csg01 and /csg02. How would I get rid of
the /csg reference within Netbackup so it doesn't throw these errors
again?

You will need to go to 6.5 if you plan to backup the Storage groups via
NBU, MS changed the database layout, now as to how to:...not quite sure,
however what we have been doing to get around this in the meantime is
creating a ntbackup job (assuming you have enough space) and backing up
the SG locally, then having NBU back that up to tape. You can use task
scheduler to perform the NTbackup. I'm sure there are somewhite papers
on how to...

Hi All,

My Exchange guy is pushing to upgrade his EX to 2007 and I have to
provide a solution. Currently we have NBU 6.5MP4 so I need to go to 6.5.

Has anybody tried it and can share some thoughts, problems, gotchas?

TIA

Hi,

this afternoon tech guys told me to increase gui timeout to 400.

It didn't work, after that i try to increase it to 500 ("bpdown" and
"bpup") and finally it work.

With 500 of timeout i'm able to query my vm machine into virtualcenter
and add it to the policy.

Just after close the policy and wait untill the autocheck feature finish
i've tried to reopen the policy and add anothe vm machine, it didin't
work and say me "failed to get vm ..".
Close nbu gui, reopen it and retry and it work.

I was able to reproduce this error 4 times.

Any suggestion?

Hi @ all,

into one of my client site i was able to correctly backup and restore
information store of exchange 2007.

The enviroment is:

NBU 6.5 master+media on windows 2003 x32 std sp2, connected to ibm 3494
with 2 3592 drives.

Exchange 2007 is on 4 server (mscs cluster) windows 2003 ee X64 sp2 with
nbu 6.5 client on it.

ever test we done work, unfortunately single mailbox backup and restore
isn't possible with 6.5 but full information store (or pubblic folder)
works.

The 366 isn't the data space, it's the keyspace. When we look at a
person's birthday, we're hashing them into that space. The "paradox"
then is how many people can we hash before the chance of a "collision"
is significant.

Obviously if 400 people are in a room, the number of values exceeds the
keyspace and the probability of a collision is greater than 1.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean with that sentence.

What is stopping at 8 bits? Hash collisions can always occur. The
question is what is the probability.

I think everyone aknowledges that as a fact.

The argument is that a process does not have to be infallible to be
valuable, much like the electrical and mechanical processes we currently
use. That if the chance of failure in the algorithm is much less then
the chance of other parts of the system introducing silent data
corruption, then the overall amount of data loss is not significantly
changed.

Hi,

Anyone encounter such a error during restore?
My Master is using NBU6.0MP4
My Client is using NBU5.1MP6 - WINNT Client

I tried restore small files and its ok but when i restoring some folders
with bigger files, i cant. Is this a bug or are there setting need to
set during restore? I check the log and got network connection timeout,
desipte setting the CLIENT_READ timeout from 300 to 1800, its still the
same. :(

Good morning,

I have been asked by our SAP administrators for information regarding a
GUI to perform SAP restores in NBU 6.5.

Previously in 4.5 and 5.1 they have been using the xbp utility to
perform the file selections they need, however the java interfaces will
not show up SAP backups.

What tools do people use to select files for restores ?

Does anybody know of a better interface ?

Many thanks,

????????????,

We have installed dedicated GbE network card into Domino server and take
advantage of multistream backup by using NEW_STREAM directive. Every
stream
goes to its respective tape drive. So overall backup spead is about
50-60
Mb/s. Network card utilization is about 80%. That looks great!

Single Mailbox Backups = A lot of problems.
Info Store Backup = A lot faster, reliable, better!

Sorry, not a fan of BLB (Brick Level Backups) and never will be !

Use the features built into Exchange for Mailbox recovery my friend !
Save
you time, save you money :-) Make users happy :-)

Hi,

I have a customer who was running a Redhat Linux server but who has
recently changed to a FreeBSD environment running version 6.2; my
NetBackup environment is running Enterprise v 5.1MP6.

Checking the relevant compatibility matrix I can see that FreeBSD
version 6.0 is covered by v5.1MP6 and my customer believes that this
means that FreeBSD v6.2 should work also (their comments are copied
below)

'The version installed is 6.2 which is the latest version. Although this

is not on the compatibility matrix I would imagine it would be backwards

compatible with 6.0 as it is only a minor version with bug fixes etc.'

I have little experience of FreeBSD therefore cannot ascertain how true
the statement above is; therefore my question is, can FreeBSD v6.2 be
backed up by NetBackup5.1MP6 and if not can it be backed up by any
version of NetBackup?

So far I have installed the NetBackup FreeBSD4.5 client software onto
the client but I am getting status code 54 errors and I believe it is
probably because the applied version of FreeBSD is not covered.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi All

Not so hot on windows and need some help.

Trying to install 5.1 MP6 on a windows 2003 client, currently at 5.1
MP4.

When I launch the installer I don't get the option to "install to this
client only" and it only gives me the network option.

I have tested on my work station and no probs

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave
