We are using service guard to cluster Oracle

Scripting the storage unit to change when a failover occurs is a good idea
The only problem is we need to start breaking the DB jobs into separate polices as we have multiple clients in a policy

I think that may be the best option though

Apparently with oracle you can define different parameters in the client bp.conf (one being the schedule)
If I can get the client to override the policy user schedule I can direct it to a local storage unit - the problem here is that the client will always use that schedule and retention level

Thanks for the advice

Are you using VCS?  We have done a lot of cross site clustering with VCS.  One solution is to have a storage unit at each site, and customize the online and offline scripts to change the policy to point to the correct storage unit.

Hi Guys

Anyone have any cross site clusters?

I was wondering what solution you have in place (if there is one) to ensure the local storage unit always performs the backup or a backup client which is cross site clustered.

As you back up the virtual name you follow the clustered instance around by the storage unit is doesn?t change dynamically

Any ideas or suggestions?

Tal
