Pre 6.0 the device config for each media server and some media information was 
stored on the media server, post 6.0 this is all in one place, the EMM 
database. 

The database uses a real server engine and since it's handling requests from 
all other servers there's a bit higher load on the master/emm server than there 
used to be.  

That being said, very few people actually have the emm server on another 
machine.  It tends to cause more trouble than it's worth. However, if you 
master server is an older and less powerful server you may want to consider 
upgrading the box first. 

Oh and as noted in a previous reply, you don't want to put NOM on the master 
server or else you'll end up with two database engines running on the box and 
that can use a lot of resources.
