“Performance” is a tricky word here.  If you never have issues during your backups then “performance” is worse for checkpoint backups.   However if you have any issue say 5 hours into a long backup for a database your end to end “performance” is better because you don’t have to redo the 5 hours.   Assuming your backups are going to tape and you can’t rerun a backup in the same window (e.g. your backup for a 4 TB DB BCV takes 18 hours) then  checkpoint is definitely the way to go.   If however you are doing a 30 minute OS backup (without DB/application directories) checkpoint likely won’t save you much.

Of course it does.  Every checkpoint requires that netbackup stop and put a marker out there.  IF I use checkpoint, I only will use 15 mins as the smallest number.
