Well, there was an earlier thread about this "waiting". I suggested
doing so never works out because release dates are often missed or some
of the features that are "supposed" to be there often aren't.

Since 6.0 MP4 is relatively stable it seems like you should plan on
doing that. The upgrade from that to 6.5 "should be" less work because
it won't be the major change that 5.1 to 6.0 was.

FWIW we just did the 6.0 MP4 upgrade last week and aren't seeing any
major issues. Luckily this forum had lots of posts about the pitfalls
and the strong admonition to be sure you've cleaned up your catalogs and
opened a ticket with support to plan the upgrade.

Coincidentally our Data Domain boxes just came in the door earlier this
week. I've suggested we wait a week or two to be sure we understand 6.0
MP4 differences before undertaking that installation.

Hey, it looks like the 6.5 version has a new SAN client and some other
disk related options. We'll have to look into that. We should install
6.0 to make sure we get everything implemented correctly, then go to
6.5. That's what the more knowledgeable users are saying. We don't
want to stay on 6.0 because it's not stable but we need to go through
the upgrade steps of 6.0. So it will be like putting 6.0 and then 6.5
for maintenance. Although 6.5 was announced it's not GA yet. We may
even do 6.0 and MP4 (which is stable), then wait for 6.5 until 1st
quarter 2008. We'll have to see what the early adopters have to say
about it.

6.0 had major core modifications. 6.5 isn't really that major - its
focus
has been on disk functionality with the SAN client, Flexible Disk
Option,
etc. Nothing like EMM and scheduler changes that happened in 6.0
