We use RMAN and every database has it's own Policy
Also we do a separate archivelog backup. 

The backup is started by the script which is in the policy and in
distinguishes the difference between a full and an archive by the
schedule which is run. Because this info is passed to the script as a
parameter.

Currently I have 4 instances being backed up in a single policy and it

impossible to distinguish which instance succeeded and which failed.
