If you're currently running a couple backup jobs at a time because
you've got a single drive auto loader, you're going to find that 3 or 4
LTO3 drives are going to require a lot more input on the IP side to keep
those drives streaming, which means you'll be running more of those
windows servers at once, and you're goning to get into a balance
scenario, where you're rarely going to max out any one client.
Hence why you're looking at D2D2T, I imagine.

I would look at a box like the "T" line, with dual processor, 4Gig of
RAM, a dual port HBA (2 drives per port) and a GigE quad card.
I would staty far away from the V490 due to the lack of fast PCI
slots....the newest gen (T, X, and the V40 all have faster PCI slots,
but if you want to run a *nix master, you're stuck with Solaris on the T
platform)

Not sure how many 133MHZ slots are on the Ts...but if there are 4, I'd
probably look at 2 dual GigE cards, and 2 single port HBAs.

Look that the bridge/bus architecture, and put the GigE cards on one
bus, and the HBA cards on the other, if possible.
Unless you're planning on doing all backups to Disk, then dube to tape,
in which case, I'd put the Tape HBA and GigE on the same Bus, and the
Disk staging device on the other.

Paul
